RESUMO

Derivatives of free monocoordinated borylenes have attracted considerable interest due to their ability to exhibit transition-metal-like reactivity, in particular small molecules capture. However, such complexes are rare as the formation is either endergonic, or the resulting adduct is a transient intermediate that is prone to reaction. Here, we present the synthesis of two bis(N-heterocyclic carbene)-borylene complexes capable of capturing and functionalizing carbon dioxide. The capture and subsequent functionalization of CO2 by the bis(NHC)-disilylamidoborylene 1 is demonstrated by the formation of the bis(NHC)-isocyanatoborylene-carbon dioxide complex 3. Reversible capture of CO2 is observed using the bis(NHC)-mesitylborylene 2, and the persistent bis(NHC)-mesitylborylene-carbon dioxide adduct 4 can be stabilized by hydrogen bonding with boric acid. The reactions of 4 with ammonia-borane and aniline demonstrate that the captured CO2 can be further functionalized.

PURPOSE: This study was designed to assess the uptake heterogeneity in neuroendocrine tumor (NET) patients at initial diagnosis with dual-tracer PET imaging and the staging changes and prognostic value it brings to explore the indication of the use of dual-tracer PET. METHODS: Fifty-one newly diagnosed patients with pathologically confirmed NET who underwent 18F-FDG and 68Ga-DOTATATE PET imaging between January 2020 and September 2022 were enrolled. Dual-tracer uptake patterns were classified into 3 groups: A. 68Ga-DOTATATE positive and 18F-FDG negative, B. 68Ga-DOTATATE positive and 18F-FDG positive, and C. 68Ga-DOTATATE negative and 18F-FDG positive. Descriptive statistics were used to evaluate the heterogeneity of dual-tracer uptake patterns among different grading (G) groups, between primary and metastatic lesions, and staging changes. Moreover, dual-tracer uptake patterns, grade, age, sex, and stage were compared with progression-free survival (PFS) by Cox regression. RESULTS: In the different G groups, none of the patients with dual-tracer uptake pattern A had grade 3 histology, but 57% of patients with grade 1 disease had FDG avidity (25% of them resulting in dual-tracer uptake pattern C). Patients with no metastasis were well differentiated, but one of them presented with dual-tracer uptake pattern C. Different uptake patterns were also observed between primary and metastatic lesions, particularly 44% of patients with dual-tracer uptake pattern A of primary with FDG avidity of metastases. Moreover, 9 (17.6%) had new lesions detected by additional 18F-FDG PET imaging, and 3 of them (5.9%) had clinical stage changed accordingly. The Cox regression test showed that the dual-tracer uptake patterns were significantly correlated with PFS by univariate and multivariate analyses (P = 0.026 and 0.039, respectively), whereas the grade and stage did not correlate with survival (all P>0.05). CONCLUSION: The current study has proven the uptake heterogeneity of the NET at initial diagnosis and demonstrated the staging and prognostic value of dual-tracer PET imaging. Our preliminary results have confirmed the importance of dual-tracer imaging modalities and concluded that dual-tracer PET imaging could be considered as prognostic tool for all patients with an initial diagnosis of NET.

Objectives This study aimed to identify the association between lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels and 30-day mortality in patients with intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) with acute leukemia during the induction phase. Methods This cohort study included patients with acute leukemia with ICH during induction. We evaluated serum LDH levels upon admission. Multivariable Cox regression analyzed the LDH 30-day mortality association. Interaction and stratified analyses based on factors like age, sex, albumin, white blood cell count, hemoglobin level, and platelet count were conducted. Results We selected 91 patients diagnosed with acute leukemia and ICH. The overall 30-day mortality rate was 61.5%, with 56 of the 91 patients succumbing. Among those with LDH levels ≥ 570 U/L, the mortality rate was 74.4% (32 out of 43), which was higher than the 50% mortality rate of the LDH < 570 U/L group (24 out of 48) ( p = 0.017). In our multivariate regression models, the hazard ratios and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals for Log2 and twice the upper limit of normal LDH were 1.27 (1.01, 1.58) and 2.2 (1.05, 4.58), respectively. Interaction analysis revealed no significant interactive effect on the relationship between LDH levels and 30-day mortality. Conclusions Serum LDH level was associated with 30-day mortality, especially in patients with LDH ≥ 570 U/L.

Deoxynivalenol (DON) is a common food contaminant that can impair male reproductive function. This study investigated the effects and mechanisms of DON exposure on progenitor Leydig cell (PLC) development in prepubertal male rats. Rats were orally administrated DON (0-4 mg/kg) from postnatal days 21-28. DON increased PLC proliferation but inhibited PLC maturation and function, including reducing testosterone levels and downregulating biomarkers like HSD11B1 and INSL3 at ≥2 mg/kg. DON also stimulated mitochondrial fission via upregulating DRP1 and FIS1 protein levels and increased oxidative stress by reducing antioxidant capacity (including NRF2, SOD1, SOD2, and CAT) in PLCs in vivo. In vitro, DON (2-4 µM) inhibited PLC androgen biosynthesis, increased reactive oxygen species production and protein levels of DRP1, FIS1, MFF, and pAMPK, decreased mitochondrial membrane potential and MFN1 protein levels, and caused mitochondrial fragmentation. The mitochondrial fission inhibitor mdivi-1 attenuated DON-induced impairments in PLCs. DON inhibited PLC steroidogenesis, increased oxidative stress, perturbed mitochondrial homeostasis, and impaired maturation. In conclusion, DON disrupts PLC development in prepubertal rats by stimulating mitochondrial fission.

Coat protein complex I (COPI) vesicles mediate the retrograde transfer of cargo between Golgi cisternae and from the Golgi to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). However, their roles in the cell cycle and proliferation are unclear. This study shows that TANGO6 associates with COPI vesicles via two transmembrane domains. The TANGO6 N- and C-terminal cytoplasmic fragments capture RNA polymerase II subunit B (RPB) 2 in the cis-Golgi during the G1 phase. COPI-docked TANGO6 carries RPB2 to the ER and then to the nucleus. Functional disruption of TANGO6 hinders the nuclear entry of RPB2, which accumulates in the cytoplasm, causing cell cycle arrest in the G1 phase. The conditional depletion or overexpression of TANGO6 in mouse hematopoietic stem cells results in compromised or expanded hematopoiesis. Our study results demonstrate that COPI vesicle-associated TANGO6 plays a role in the regulation of cell cycle progression by directing the nuclear transfer of RPB2, making it a potential target for promoting or arresting cell expansion.

Dietary fiber intake and physical fitness are independently associated with high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels. Nevertheless, the association between dietary fiber intake, measures of physical fitness, and hs-CRP levels has not yet been fully evaluated. We investigated the influence of a combination of dietary fiber intake and measures of physical fitness, including hand grip strength, resistance training, and metabolic equivalents of tasks, on hs-CRP levels. Data collected from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) spanning 2015 to 2018 were used in this study. A total of 16,934 participants (7434 men and 9500 women aged ≥19 years) were included in this study. After adjusting for confounding factors (age, education, income, marital status, smoking status, drinking habits, total energy intake, and aerobic physical activity), we employed a multivariable logistic model to examine the association of dietary fiber intake and measures of physical fitness with hs-CRP levels. Among women, the odds of high hs-CRP levels were lower in those with the highest dietary fiber intake and superior grip strength compared to in women with the lowest dietary fiber intake and weaker grip strength (odds ratio [OR] = 0.40, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.24-0.68). The highest dietary fiber intake who participated in resistance exercise at least three times per week had a reduced odds of high hs-CRP levels compared with those with the lowest dietary fiber intake who did not engage in resistance exercise in both men and women (OR = 0.53, 95% CI = 0.32-0.89; OR = 0.40, 95% CI = 0.19-0.84, respectively). Our findings indicate that dietary fiber intake and high levels of physical fitness were associated with reduced odds of elevated hs-CRP levels.

Pentachlorophenol (PCP) is a widely used pesticide. However, whether PCP and its metabolite chloranil have endocrine-disrupting effects by inhibiting placental 3ß-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 (3ß-HSD1) remains unclear. The study used in vitro assays with human and rat placental microsomes to measure 3ß-HSD activity as well as human JAr cells to evaluate progesterone production. The results showed that PCP exhibited moderate inhibition of human 3ß-HSD1, with an IC50 value of 29.83 µM and displayed mixed inhibition in terms of mode of action. Conversely, chloranil proved to be a potent inhibitor, demonstrating an IC50 value of 147 nM, and displaying a mixed mode of action. PCP significantly decreased progesterone production by JAr cells at 50 µM, while chloranil markedly reduced progesterone production at ≥1 µM. Interestingly, PCP and chloranil moderately inhibited rat placental homolog 3ß-HSD4, with IC50 values of 27.94 and 23.42 µM, respectively. Dithiothreitol (DTT) alone significantly increased human 3ß-HSD1 activity. Chloranil not PCP mediated inhibition of human 3ß-HSD1 activity was completely reversed by DTT and that of rat 3ß-HSD4 was partially reversed by DTT. Docking analysis revealed that both PCP and chloranil can bind to the catalytic domain of 3ß-HSDs. The difference in the amino acid residue Cys83 in human 3ß-HSD1 may explain why chloranil is a potent inhibitor through its interaction with the cysteine residue of human 3ß-HSD1. In conclusion, PCP is metabolically activated to chloranil as a potent inhibitor of human 3ß-HSD1.

Due to the depletion of fossil energy on earth, it is crucial to develop resource rich and efficient non-precious metal electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Herein, we synthesized an efficient and economical electrocatalyst using a simple self-assembly strategy. Firstly, rod-shaped MIL-88A was synthesized by hydrothermal method. Then, the surface of MIL-88A was functionalized and encapsulated in zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) by hydrothermal method. The combination of MIL-88A and ZIF-67 resulted in a slight ion-exchange reaction between Co2+ and the surface of MIL-88A to generate CoFe-LDH@ZIF-67 core-shell structure. Afterwards, in the presence of Mo6+, ZIF-67 was converted into CoMo-nanocages through ion-exchange reactions, forming a core-shell structure of MoCoFe hydr (oxy) oxide@CoMo-LDH (MoCoFe-HO@CoMo-LDH). Due to the advantages of core-shell structure and composition, this material exhibits excellent OER characteristics, with a small Tafel slope (45.11 mV dec-1) and low overpotential (324 mV) at 10 mA cm-2. It exhibits good stability in alkaline media. This research work provides a novel approach for the development of efficient and economical non-precious metal electrocatalysts.

Herbal medicines (HMs) are one of the main sources for the development of lead antiviral compounds. However, due to the complex composition of HMs, the screening of active compounds within these is inefficient and requires a significant time investment. We report a novel and efficient virus-based screening method for antiviral active compounds in HMs. This method involves the centrifugal ultrafiltration of viruses, known as the virus-based affinity ultrafiltration method (VAUM). This method is suitable to identify virus specific active compounds from complex matrices such as HMs. The effectiveness of the VAUM was evaluated using influenza A virus (IAV) H1N1. Using this method, four compounds that bind to the surface protein of H1N1 were identified from dried fruits of Terminalia chebula (TC). Through competitive inhibition assays, the influenza surface protein, neuraminidase (NA), was identified as the target protein of these four TC-derived compounds. Three compounds were identified by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS), and their anti-H1N1 activities were verified by examining the cytopathic effect (CPE) and by performing a virus yield reduction assay. Further mechanistic studies demonstrated that these three compounds directly bind to NA and inhibit its activity. In summary, we describe here a VAUM that we designed, one that can be used to accurately screen antiviral active compounds in HMs and also help improve the efficiency of screening antiviral drugs found in natural products.

Background: Cowden syndrome (CS) is a rare genetic disorder associated with PTEN gene mutations. It is characterized by macrocephaly, specific mucocutaneous features, and a predisposition to benign and malignant tumors. Cases of CS primarily presenting with oral clinical manifestations are relatively uncommon. Methods/Results: We report the case of a 41-year-old male proband who presented with bilateral commissural and lingual externally projecting symmetric lesions for over two years. The proband also exhibited other features, including macrocephaly, communication difficulties, and obesity. Similar oral clinical manifestations were observed in family members. Whole exome sequencing analysis revealed PTEN gene mutations associated with CS in both the proband and his younger brother. This case serves as a reminder to be aware of the diverse presentations of CS in oral clinical practice and highlights the importance of genetic testing for guiding diagnosis and treatment. Conclusion: There are few reported cases of CS primarily presenting with oral lesions. This finding contributes to further understanding of certain aspects of the pathogenesis of CS and enhances awareness of CS cases primarily exhibiting oral clinical manifestations.

The balance between bone-resorbing osteoclasts and bone-forming osteoblasts is essential for the process of bone remodeling. Excessive osteoclast differentiation plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of bone diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. In the present study, we examined whether 7,8-epoxy-11-sinulariolide acetate (Esa), a marine natural product present in soft coral Sinularia siaesensis, attenuates inflammation and osteoclastogenesis in vitro. The results indicated that Esa significantly inhibited lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation model of RAW264.7 cells and suppressed receptor activator for nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL)-triggered osteoclastogenesis. Esa significantly down-regulated the protein expression of iNOS, COX-2, and TNF-α by inhibiting the NF-κB/MAPK/PI3K pathways and reducing the release of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in RAW264.7 macrophages. Besides, Esa treatment significantly inhibited osteoclast differentiation and suppressed the expression of osteoclast-specific markers such as NFATC1, MMP-9, and CTSK proteins. These findings suggest that Esa may be a potential agent for the maintenance of bone homeostasis associated with inflammation.

BACKGROUND: To diagnose the full spectrum of hereditary and congenital diseases, genetic laboratories use many different workflows, ranging from karyotyping to exome sequencing. A single generic high-throughput workflow would greatly increase efficiency. We assessed whether genome sequencing (GS) can replace these existing workflows aimed at germline genetic diagnosis for rare disease. METHODS: We performed short-read GS (NovaSeq™6000; 150 bp paired-end reads, 37 × mean coverage) on 1000 cases with 1271 known clinically relevant variants, identified across different workflows, representative of our tertiary diagnostic centers. Variants were categorized into small variants (single nucleotide variants and indels < 50 bp), large variants (copy number variants and short tandem repeats) and other variants (structural variants and aneuploidies). Variant calling format files were queried per variant, from which workflow-specific true positive rates (TPRs) for detection were determined. A TPR of ≥ 98% was considered the threshold for transition to GS. A GS-first scenario was generated for our laboratory, using diagnostic efficacy and predicted false negative as primary outcome measures. As input, we modeled the diagnostic path for all 24,570 individuals referred in 2022, combining the clinical referral, the transition of the underlying workflow(s) to GS, and the variant type(s) to be detected. RESULTS: Overall, 95% (1206/1271) of variants were detected. Detection rates differed per variant category: small variants in 96% (826/860), large variants in 93% (341/366), and other variants in 87% (39/45). TPRs varied between workflows (79-100%), with 7/10 being replaceable by GS. Models for our laboratory indicate that a GS-first strategy would be feasible for 84.9% of clinical referrals (750/883), translating to 71% of all individuals (17,444/24,570) receiving GS as their primary test. An estimated false negative rate of 0.3% could be expected. CONCLUSIONS: GS can capture clinically relevant germline variants in a 'GS-first strategy' for the majority of clinical indications in a genetics diagnostic lab.

Butorphanol is a synthetic opioid analgesic medication that is primarily used for the management of pain. Butorphanol may have an inhibitory effect on androgen biosynthesis and metabolism in rat immature Leydig cells. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of butorphanol on androgen secretion by rat Leydig cells isolated from the 35-day-old male rats. Rat Leydig cells were cultured with 0.5-50 µM butorphanol for 3 h in vitro. Butorphanol at 5 and 50 µM significantly inhibited androgen secretion in immature Leydig cells. At 50 µM, butorphanol also blocked the effects of luteinizing hormone (LH) and 8bromo-cAMP-stimulated androgen secretion and 22R-hydroxycholesterol- and pregnenolone-mediated androgen production. Further analysis of the results showed that butorphanol downregulated the expression of genes involved in androgen production, including Lhcgr (LH receptor), Cyp11a1 (cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme), Srd5a1 (5α-reductase 1), and Akr1c14 (3α-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase). Additionally, butorphanol directly inhibited HSD3B1 (3ß-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1) and SRD5A1 activity. In conclusion, butorphanol may have side effects of inhibiting androgen biosynthesis and metabolism in Leydig cells.

OBJECTIVES: This study investigated the association of alcohol consumption, betel nut chewing, and cigarette smoking (ABC) with mortality in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC). This nationwide population-based cohort study determined whether ABC habits were associated with overall or cancer-specific mortality in patients with HNC in Taiwan. METHODS: Data from the Taiwan Cancer Registry and Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database were used to identify patients with HNC from 2011 to 2017. All the identified patients were monitored until the date of death or the end of 2017. Poisson regression models were employed to estimate the incidence rate ratios (IRRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) associated with the effect of ABC habits on mortality. RESULTS: A total of 31,246 patients with HNC were analyzed in this study. The results revealed that betel nut chewing alone exhibited the strongest effect, significantly increasing the risk of overall mortality (adjusted IRR = 1.44, 95% CI = 1.27-1.63). Additionally, betel nut chewing alone was significantly associated with cancer-specific mortality (adjusted IRR = 1.51, 95% CI = 1.30-1.44). Stratified analyses by sex and tumor location indicated that the effect of betel nut chewing alone on overall or cancer-specific mortality remained significant across both sexes, and among patients with oral cancer and patients with oropharyngeal cancer. CONCLUSIONS: ABC habits, particularly betel nut chewing, are significantly associated with diminished survival rates in patients with HNC. Accordingly, the implementation of an integrated campaign targeting the prevention of betel nut chewing would be one of the effective public health strategies for improving outcomes for HNC patients.

The scavenger receptor class B family proteins (SRB) are multiligand membrane receptor proteins. Herein, a novel SRB homolog (Pt-SRB2) was identified in Portunus trituberculatus. The open reading frame of Pt-SRB2 was predicted to encode 520 amino acid residues comprising a typical CD36 domain. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Pt-SRB2 distinctly clustered with the SRB homologs of most crustaceans and Drosophila but was separate from all vertebrate CD36/SRB. Semi-quantitative and Real-time quantitative PCR revealed that the abundance of Pt-SRB2 transcripts was the highest in hepatopancreas than in other tested tissues. Overexpressed Pt-SRB2 was distributed primarily in the cell membrane and cytoplasm of HEK293T or Drosophila Schneider 2 cells. In crab hemocytes, Pt-SRB2 was distributed primarily in the cell membrane by immunofluorescence staining. In addition, the immunofluorescence staining showed that green fluorescence signals were mainly located in the inner lumen membrane of the hepatopancreatic tubules. Moreover, solid-phase enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay revealed that rPt-SRB2-L exhibited relative high affinity with lipopolysaccharides, and relative moderate binding affinity with lipoteichoic acid or peptidoglycan. Of note, rPt-SRB2-L showed high binding affinity with eicosapentaenoic acid among a series of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. Taken together, this study provided valuable data for understanding the functions of the crab CD36/SRB.

Forcipomyia (Lasiohelea) taiwana, a small bloodsucking midge, thrives in moderately moist habitats and is commonly found in grassy and bushy areas at an elevation below 250 m. This species exhibits a diurnal biting pattern and shows a marked preference for human blood. Although not known to transmit arthropod-borne diseases, the bites of F. taiwana can induce severe allergic reactions in some individuals. As a significant nuisance in Taiwan, affecting both daily life and the tourism industry, comprehensive studies on its population genetics across different geographical regions remain scarce. The central mountain ranges in Taiwan, comprising more than two hundred peaks above 3000 m in elevation, extend from the north to the south of the island, creating distinct eastern and western geographical divisions. This study utilizes microsatellite markers to explore the genetic differentiation of F. taiwana populations located in the eastern and western regions of the mountain ranges. Our findings reveal substantial genetic differentiation among populations inhabiting Taiwan's western region compared to those in the eastern region. This indicates that the topographical barriers presented by the mountain ranges significantly restrict gene flow, particularly given the species' limited active flight ability and habitat preferences. Although passive dispersal mechanisms, like wind or human activity, could contribute, this study concludes that the gene flow of F. taiwana between the western and eastern regions is primarily influenced by topographical constraints.

Morphine is an analgesic in the opiate family, isolated from many plants. It can inhibit androgen biosynthesis by Leydig cells. Whether morphine directly inhibits androgen biosynthesis and underlying mechanism remains unclear. To investigate the influence of morphine on androgen secretion by rat immature Leydig cells (ILCs) and possible mechanism. Rat ILCs were treated with 0.5-50 µM morphine for 3 h in vitro. Morphine at ≥0.5 µM significantly reduced total androgen secretion. Morphine at 50 µM also compromised luteinizing hormone (LH, 10 mg/kg), 8Br-cAMP (1 mM), and 22R-hydroxycholesterol (20 µM) stimulated total androgen, androstanediol, and testosterone secretion, without affecting pregnenolone, progesterone, androstenedione mediated androgen secretion and testosterone and dihydrotestosterone mediated androstanediol secretion. Further analysis revealed that morphine at ≥0.5 µM downregulated Star expression and at ≥5 µM downregulated Cyp11a1 expression. Morphine also significantly reduced STAR (≥0.5 µM) and reduced CYP11A1 (≥5 µM) levels. 0.5 µM naloxone significantly antagonized morphine-mediated action. In conclusion, morphine might cause side effects by suppressing androgen biosynthesis via u opioid receptor.

BACKGROUND: Hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) viruses are diseases of global public health concern and are associated with liver cancer. Recent studies have revealed associations between hepatic viral infections and extrahepatic cancers. This study aimed to explore the associations between hepatitis B and C viruses and cancer at baseline in the Taiwan Biobank database while controlling for a wide range of confounding variables. METHODS: In a cross-sectional study of adults aged > 20 years, we compared the distribution of demographic factors, lifestyle, and comorbidities between viral and nonviral hepatic groups using the chi-square test. Univariate and multivariate logistic regressions were performed to observe the associations between hepatitis B and C viral infections and cancers by estimating the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Multivariate regression analysis was adjusted for sociodemographic factors, lifestyle, and comorbidities. RESULTS: From the database, 2955 participants were identified as having HCV infection, 15,305 as having HBV infection, and 140,108 as the nonviral group. HBV infection was associated with an increased likelihood of liver cancer (adjusted OR (aOR) = 6.60, 95% CI = 3.21-13.57, P < 0.001) and ovarian cancer (aOR = 4.63, 95% CI = 1.98-10.83, P = 0.001). HCV infection was observed to increase the likelihood of liver cancer (aOR = 4.90, 95% CI = 1.37-17.53, P = 0.015), ovarian cancer (aOR = 8.50, 95% CI = 1.78-40.69, P = 0.007), and kidney cancer (aOR = 12.89, 95% CI = 2.41-69.01, P = 0.003). CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that hepatic viral infections are associated with intra- and extrahepatic cancers. However, being cross-sectional, causal inferences cannot be made. A recall-by-genotype study is recommended to further investigate the causality of these associations.

Five new cembrane-type diterpenes, lobocalines A-E (1-5), and four new steroids, lobocaloids A-D (9-12), along with six known related compounds (6-8 and 13-15) were isolated from the Yalong Bay soft coral Lobophytum catalai Tixier-Durivault. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis, NMR calculation with DP4+ analysis, time-dependent density functional theory-electronic circular dichroism (TDDFT-ECD) calculations, X-ray diffraction analyses and comparison with the reported spectroscopic data of known compounds. Further, with the aid of X-ray diffraction analysis, the structure of lobocrasol B (15) was firmly revised as 15a. In in vitro bioassays, compound 2 showed moderate antibacterial activities against fish pathogenic bacteria Streptococcus parauberis KSP28 and Phoyobacterium damselae FP2244 with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 8.7 and 17.3 µg/mL, respectively. All the steroids exhibited antibacterial activities against the S. parauberis KSP28 with MIC values ranging from 12.3 to 53.6 µg/mL. Compounds 2, 7 and 14 have remarkable inhibitory effects on the hemolysin production of Staphylococcus aureus, while compounds 8-12 have medium inhibitory effects on the pyocyanin production in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
